The Road Ahead

January 28, 2021

As we start making headway into 2021, it must be said that the new year thus far has not yet been the breath of fresh air we might have hoped for. Turning the calendar has not yet meant closing the chapter on the pandemic. That said, COVID fatigue aside, there is much to be hopeful for as we head into February.

Here in Vermont, we just passed a very positive milestone last week. According to the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, we now have more citizens vaccinated (6%) than have been infected by COVID-19 (4.4%). With our frontline healthcare workers largely accounted for, the state has opened up the online registry for citizens over 75 to schedule their appointments. Registration turnout has been high, with 50% of available appointments filled within the first day. And those appointments began last week, so we're already making more progress with our highest risk demographic.

Once we have healthcare workers and our over-65 population vaccinated, we will have reached a critical goal; our most vulnerable demographic protected and our healthcare system shielded from potential collapse. We won’t be out of the woods, but we’ll start to see the light through the trees.

With this progress in mind, it’s time to start thinking about your next event. And with our historic inns, mountain lodges, and lakeside resorts all offering easy access to the outdoors, Vermont should be on top of your list. Call the Vermont Convention Bureau today and see how we can help.
